Thoughts on Strength
After delivering a workshop on strength training for Kendal Wall Women’s Social, I created this reference tool to support people starting out on their strength training journey. It can be absolutely life-changing, espeically for women.
Keeping this topic simple is tricky. I’ve gathered the key points from current thinking and research findings. This will explain why, how and what to do to train strength.
Playing with Fear
This is an article I wrote a few years ago delving into the physiological and psychological aspects of fear when climbing, using anecdotes from my trad climbing adventures in North Wales. Tuning into what is happening in our bodies when we get scared can hugely improve our performance, inform our decision making and enhance our experience.
Book Review - Eat to Climb
I was asked to write a book review of Eat to Climb by Mina Leslie-Wujastyk for the Professional Mountaineer magazine. I found the book so well-researched, grounded in reality and balanced, that I wanted to share it here. It would be hugely beneficial to a wide range of climbers, athletes, coaches and parents.
New Routing in Mexico
Ever dreamt of putting up a new route?
This is an article I wrote about the incredible time I had and lessons I learnt in Northern Mexico. We cut it right down to the wire, managing to get a first ascent of our new 350m adventurous route and catch the plane home! We called it “Eterno Optimista”.
Never say Never - Mistakes in the Mountains Article
In 2020, I made an error of judgement that could have cost me my life. During the subsequent 18 months, I had some serious rehab to do and a lot of time to reflect. I wrote this article for UK Climbing describing the accident, looking at the build up, repercussions and meaning I took from it.
Vital Adventures Alpine Trip Report
In the depths of Covid times, when the borders first opened again, my fantastic climbing partner Nick and I darted across to Switzerland for some soul healing time out of captivity in the mountains. I wrote this trip report for the Women’s Alpine Adventure Club, with some interesting observations about risk management during Covid times.
