Spanish Boulder Guiding

  • Albarracín Albarracín, AR, 44126 Spain (map)

Escape the winter blues and share the psyche with likeminded climbers on a Spanish bouldering trip. Albarracín is well known for its medieval architecture, forests trails, cave paintings and hundreds of glorious sandstone boulders.

This trip is designed to bring people together to share the joys of outdoor bouldering. Sally knows the area really well so you can relax, be on holiday, let her work out the best venue for the conditions each day and be guided around some of the best bouldering in Europe.

Programme:

Friday: meet Sally at the accommodation in the afternoon and get settled in.

Saturday - Friday: 5 days of bouldering guiding and 2 rest days.
During the bouldering days I (Sally) will pick the best area to head to, show you around and we’ll then fill our souls with climbing. I have kept a maximum group size of 6 people so that I can optimise the venue choice for individuals and offer input to each person throughout the day. Input might be anything from improving pad placement, suggesting a tactics adjustment, offering a spot - whatever comes up.

I have put two proper rest day into the mix to encourage you to relax, read books, enjoy the forest, and regrow skin! You will still have access to the boulder pads if you can’t bear the idea of taking time off from climbing (but I highly recommend that you do).

Sunday: start travel back to the UK or speak to Hugo at Stone and Woods to stay on.

  • The course fee does not include transport to the accommodation or to the boulders each day, so most course participants opt to share a car and coordinate their travel out to Spain. I am very happy to put you in touch with each other.

    Travel options include:
Ferry: I usually get the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao and drive with my own van around 5 hours to Albarracin. This is cost effective with a few people. You can also travel as a foot passenger and hire a car in Spain.

Train: The European rail network will can take you to Valencia (2 hours drive from Albarracin) or Teruel (1 hour from Albarracin). The easiest option from here is to rent a car from Valencia train station.

Bus: There is a bus service from Teruel to Albarracin once a day at 2pm, except on Sundays.

Taxi: Service avilable from Teruel to Albarracin for around 50 euros.

Flight: International flights go to Valencia (2 hours from Albarracin), Madrid (3 and a half hours), Reus (4 hours) and Barcelona (5 hours). You can hire a car from any of these airports.

If you have any concerns please get in touch. If you arrive without a car or aren’t confident driving in Spain that’s no problem. One of the other participants or I will be able to offer you lifts.
